Letter to Governor Ademola Adeleke Regarding Alabere’s Conducts.

We received a copy of the letter sent by Osogbo Professionals Association (OPA) to his Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen J. Adeleke, the executive governor of Osun State, pleading with him to call the newly installed Alabere of Abere-Ede to order. The letter was sent through the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Tesleem Igbalaye.

In the letter, which was signed by Dr. Omoniyi Yakubu Adebisi, the President, and Engineer Olajide Jubril Adesina, the General Secretary of the OPA, the Association called the attention of the governor to conducts likely to breach peace allegedly perpetrated by Oba Adefemi Mutalib Adelakin Abiade II, the Alabere of Abere-Ede and his team who reportedly paraded themselves around buildings and properties located on the land within the territory of Osogbo on or around March 4th, 2023. The letter noted that the Alabere and his team allegedly mandated the owners and occupiers of these properties to change the name on their signposts from Osogbo to Abere-Ede with associated threats against anyone that fails to heed this illegal demand.

In the letter, the OPA reported that peace-loving youths of Osogbo planned to embark on peaceful protests. The President of the OPA, Dr. Omoniyi Yakubu Adebisi, informed our reporter that after he consulted with elders, including the revered monarch of the ancient city of Osogbo, HRM Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji Larooye II, the Ataoja of Osobgo, the youths were advised against staging such protests for now  because such might easily be hijacked by hoodlums resulting in preventable loss of lives and or properties.

Dr. Adebisi further explained that Osogbo people are traditionally people of virtue that abhor violence but also detest aggression. He explained that the alleged aggression of the Alabere and his team against the peace-loving people of Osogbo has serious potential of engendering communal clashes that may make Ife-Modakeke communal war a child-play. He explained that the OPA decided to take the civilized approach of sending the aforementioned letter to Governor Adeleke being the Chief Security Officer of Osun State while copying law enforcement agencies in Osun State to let them be aware of the unacceptable conducts of this Alabere and his team and to call them to order promptly.

He added that he and other peace loving people of Osogbo strongly believe that Governor Adeleke will act promptly within reasonable time.

He also noted that it is only Osun State that the State Secretariat does not bear the name of the State Capital at its entrance. He said that it is time for the government of Osun State to ensure that the name of Osogbo is conspicuously written on the entrances of the State Secretariat of Osun State, the House of Assembly gate and all other strategic locations and buildings around the State Secretariat so that any visitor can easily know that these edifices are truly located in Osogbo, the Capital City of Osun State.
