Breaking News: LTH, Osogbo now UniOsun Teaching Hospital – Details to Follow!!!

GraftWatch just received a reliable information that the former Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital Complex located in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria (LTH, Osogbo) will now be referred to as the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UniOsun Teaching Hospital), Osogbo, effective immediately. The source noted that the details of this new arrangement will be made available soon.

Prior to this breaking news, there were significant concerns expressed by citizens and residents of Osun State, especially in the ancient city of Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, regarding the fate of this center of excellence following the recent severance of joint ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), the institution that this hospital was originally accredited to serve as its teaching hospital when things were rosy between the two sister states that jointly owned this institution before parting ways few days ago.

Some controversial memos were circulating, causing confusions. One of such documents was purportedly signed by one J. A. Ogunkunle, Secretary, Management Committee of the LAUTECH, Ogbomoso and was dated December 2, 2020.  That document instructed students and staff members of the LAUTECH at the Teaching Hospital located in Osogbo to relocate to Ogbomoso, Oyo State by December 7, 2020. This instruction caused a lot of apprehensions among citizens who wondered what would happen to the services and patients of this teaching hospital following these directives. The citizens were concerned about the negative outcomes that might befall the seriously ill patients, the not so ill and other citizens that daily benefit one way or the other from services rendered by this teaching hospital in Osogbo.

Our correspondent, who reached out to some of the members of the incumbent government officials in Osun State, reported feedback reassuring citizens of Osun State that this teaching hospital would continue functioning as it was before the joint ownership of the LAUTECH hit the rock. This reassurance was however not enough to assuage the concerns of the citizens.

Honorable Folorunso Oladoyin, the Commissioner for Education in Osun State, also signed a memo dated December 3, 2020 appealing to citizens of the state of the virtue to calm down. The information conveyed in this memo too was insufficient to alleviate the fears of the citizens about the consequences of sudden relocation of the staff members and trainees of this teaching hospital as instructed in the memo circulated by the aforementioned A. J. Ogunkunle.

With this recent renaming of the hospital however, the concerned citizens are likely to have some reliefs that at least this hospital remains a teaching hospital pending further announcement from the stakeholders as regards how it will continue functioning as a teaching hospital if the directives communicated in the memo of A. J. Ogunkunle are fully implemented.
